This National Entrepreneurship Month, I’m on a mission to raise funds for the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship (NFTE). Your support can help fuel the future of entrepreneurs and leaders.

I've been volunteering for NFTE for more than 6 years (since I was in middle school), and now as a senior at USC I am proud to be on the Advisory Board for NFTE West.

I'll never forget one of my first times volunteering, I was a judge for a classroom competition. The best pitches from a local high school were brought along with teams from other schools to compete, eventually for a spot at the national competition. A young man, probably only a couple years older than me, stood up with his presentation, a folder covering his face, and told us about his idea. He had such an amazing business and product idea and was clearly knowledgeable, but was not showing any confidence in himself or his ideas. All we could do was give him feedback and encouragement. A few months later, I came to an event to watch the finalists that would pitch at the national competition practice one last time. And he was there. As I watched his pitch, I couldn't believe it was the same person. His confidence lit up the room. That's when I realized that the value of NFTE is not in learning how to build a business, because not everyone has those aspirations for the future. It's in teaching the kids how to be confident in themselves and their ideas, and showing them that they can do whatever they put their mind to. Because many of them don't have parents, teachers, or friends that can do that for them like so many of us have had.

As the year end nears and we celebrate Youth Entrepreneurship Day and global entrepreneurship, there’s no better time to make a difference. NFTE’s programs empower young people to explore their passions, discover potential career paths, and gain the confidence they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
